ABOUT FUTSAL
Futsal is an indoor version of football (soccer) that is played extensively through out the world.
Futsal is played between two teams with the format of five players of each teams, one of whom is the goalkeeper.
‘Futsal’ is an abbreviation of the Portuguese ‘futebol de salão’ or the Spanish ‘futbol sala’, both of which translated literally mean ‘indoor football’.
Like the football player each team may have a number of substitutes.
Unlike some other forms of indoor football, the field is delimited by lines, and not nets or boards which the ball may be played off.
It is played on a pitch approximately the size of a basketball or netball court with a ball which is smaller and heavier than the outdoor football.
Furthermore, the smaller play area forces players to improve their skills, teamwork and decision making. Futsal is a great skill developer, demanding quick reflexes, fast thinking, and pinpoint passing.
Many outdoor soccer players started out playing futsal. The game places considerable demand on technique, movement, tactical awareness and fitness. The speed of play is such that you are forced to make quicker technical and tactical decisions.
